WILLEMSTAD - The current lockdown in Curaçao, which is the second one, also has a negative effect on the growth of the economy, the Central Bank reports in a recent publication. The longer the lockdown lasts, the stronger this effect will be.
Before the outbreak of the current wave, a slight growth of 2.5 percent was expected by the Central Bank. At a lockdown of four weeks this growth will slow down, but at six weeks it will turn into a contraction of 0.4 percent, at eight weeks this will be -1.8 percent of the GDP.
