WILLEMSTAD - The queue to get a driver's license is long. Not only because there is a backlog at the Driving Licenses Bureau due to the pandemic. Also, many people fail the exam the first time. About 40% have to go for a second round.
Minister Cornelis Martina says additional instructors are being hired to speed up the process. Three retired examiners are also temporarily assisting. The minister emphasizes that expired driving licenses must be renewed quickly. If this does not happen within a year, the driver must retake the exam. That creates even more pressure.
