Local | By Correspondent July 28, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Service (LVV) has imported 46 goats and sheep from the U.S. The LVV wants to cross the goats with local goats and sheep in order to protect the local population against, among other things, inbreeding.

Project leader Gerretson Doran confirmed to the media. According to Doran, there are 4 varieties that are not yet found on the island and can also withstand the local climate. The quality of the local goat and sheep meat for consumption is also improving. The animals are first quarantined for 40 days. After that, farmers can rent the goats to mate with their own animals.
