WILLEMSTAD - Gold smuggling provides Nicolas Maduro with around 1.5 billion dollars a year. According to the Miami Herald, that money is crucial for maintaining the regime.
Part of that gold goes via Colombia, Aruba and Curaçao to the United States. The gold that runs through Curaçao is brought in via small boats and private aircraft and then goes to the largest gold market in the US: Miami.
