Major drug and weapons checkpoint at Hato

WILLEMSTAD - The police held a major drug and weapons checkpoint at Hato airport yesterday. KPC staff working at Hato, in collaboration with the Royal Netherlands Marechausse, checked everyone who was in the vicinity for one reason or another, including pedestrians.

The check was carried out during a busy moment at the airport; around the time a plane to the Netherlands was ready for boarding. But the checks will also be carried out on other days and times, KPC and KMar report.

A total of 13 vehicles and 23 people were checked. The police confiscated a large cleaver (machete) and two fines have been issued in connection with not being able to show insurance certificate and inspection card. In addition, a ticket was issued for a car with dark tinted windows.

A vehicle was also seized, because no documents were in order. The driver has also received a police fine. The police are awaiting his official papers.
