WILLEMSTAD – The first-ever Aura Festival, held last Saturday at Capital Ç, led to severe traffic chaos before and after the event, leaving many visitors stuck for hours. According to the Curaçao Police Force, the situation caused widespread frustration among festival-goers as well as other motorists along the busy F.D. Rooseveltweg.
A police assessment shows that the festival organizers did not adequately account for the limited parking capacity in the surrounding area. The shortage of parking spaces led to long traffic jams that persisted throughout the evening.
In a press statement, the police said:
“We have evaluated the situation and understand the frustration of the people who had to wait before they could continue driving. As the authority responsible for safety and traffic flow, we view this as a learning opportunity and will take appropriate measures in the future, especially for large-scale events where congestion can be anticipated.”
Authorities are urging event organizers to implement proper traffic and parking management plans for future events to prevent similar disruptions.
