WILLEMSTAD — A man was taken to the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) in serious condition on Saturday afternoon after ingesting a large amount of water while swimming at Playa Piskadó. The incident was confirmed by the Curaçao Police (KPC) in a press release.
According to police, the man was swimming with others when he entered the water alone to dive. Shortly afterward, he was found unconscious on the seabed.
Bystanders managed to pull the man out of the water and immediately began resuscitation efforts while waiting for the ambulance to arrive, police said.
Ambulance personnel were able to stabilize the victim at the scene before transporting him urgently to the emergency department of the Curaçao Medical Center for further medical treatment.
No additional details about the man’s identity or current condition have been released. Authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.
