MAN-PIN Leader Calls Resignations a “Sad Moment” for Curaçao, Urges Respect for Rule of Law

WILLEMSTAD — Opposition leader Giselle Mc William of MAN-PIN has described the recent resignations of former Minister of Governance, Planning and Public Services Kimberly Lew-Jen-Tai and Minister Plenipotentiary Carlson Manuel as a “sad moment” for Curaçao, stressing that such situations should not be politicized and must be handled with respect for the rule of law.

In a public statement shared on social media, Mc William said many people had asked for her opinion following the developments surrounding the two former officials. She emphasized that, above all, the events are painful for the country and for the individuals and families involved.

Regarding the situation of former minister Lew-Jen-Tai, Mc William stated that MAN-PIN had been aware since December of what had taken place, but deliberately chose not to engage in political attacks. According to the opposition leader, incidents of this nature are deeply personal and tragic, affecting not only the individuals concerned but also their families.

With respect to the resignation of Minister Plenipotentiary Manuel, Mc William noted that she had spoken with him and advisers on several occasions over the past three years. Ultimately, she said, individuals make their own choices and must bear the consequences of those decisions.

Mc William drew a parallel with the Rhuggenaath cabinet, during which two ministers also stepped down, underscoring that she understands the emotional toll such moments take. She also criticized what she described as the tendency of political opponents to take satisfaction in the downfall of others, especially when it concerns professionals, parents and public servants.

“As a person, as a woman, as a mother and as a political leader, I will never celebrate the pain of others,” Mc William wrote, adding that this position applies even when it involves political rivals.

At the same time, the MAN-PIN leader stressed that her party remains firm on principles of good governance. She emphasized that Curaçao’s constitutional order, laws and integrity must be respected in all circumstances and by everyone, regardless of position or political affiliation.

Mc William concluded by expressing her personal support for both Lew-Jen-Tai and Manuel, wishing them strength and resilience as they navigate what she described as a difficult chapter in their lives.
