WILLEMSTAD – The MAN-PIN parliamentary faction has submitted a new legislative proposal aimed at enforcing a ban on certain plastic products. This is stated in an initiative letter from faction leader Giselle Mc William to the chair of the Curaçao Parliament.
According to MAN-PIN, the Curaçao Parliament already approved an amendment to the National Ordinance on Public Order in March 2024 to address plastic pollution. However, the faction argues that the government failed to publish parts of the adopted legislation, preventing the law from formally entering into force.
As a result, the plastic ban was never implemented. MAN-PIN maintains that the government considered certain elements of the approved law undesirable and therefore chose not to proceed with full publication.
In response, the faction has decided to revise the proposal and submit it again, formally requesting expedited parliamentary treatment. MAN-PIN says the renewed initiative is intended to ensure that measures to combat plastic pollution are effectively enacted and enforced.
