Mangrove park work almost completed

Local | By Correspondent October 26, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The work on the mangrove park at Courtyard by Marriot Hotel and Hotel Corendon is almost complete. The park will be managed by biological research center Carmabi.

Work is still underway on the water pumping station at the Social Insurance Bank (SVB). Pipes are being laid up to the Klein Hofje. This is intended for the sewage system of Otrobanda. The next step in the project is to sign a management agreement with Carmabi.

There is no money for a visitor center yet. According to former minister Zita Jesus-Leito, office containers are an alternative, so that the park can be opened. There will also be a container for kayaks. For example, tourists and visitors can kayak through the mangrove. “With the sale of the tickets, Carmabi can clean and maintain the park,” said Jesus-Leito.
