MAN/PIN MP Criticizes Prime Minister Pisas for Staying Silent Amid U.S.–Venezuela Tensions

Local | By Correspondent December 2, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – MAN/PIN parliamentarian Giselle Mc William says it is “deeply regrettable” that Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas has not addressed the nation during the current period of heightened tension between the United States and Venezuela.

According to Mc William, while the region faces a sensitive geopolitical situation, the prime minister has neither held a press conference nor issued a public statement to inform citizens about potential risks for Curaçao.

“There is an ongoing situation between the U.S. and Venezuela, yet Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas remains silent,” Mc William stated. “The people deserve clear communication and reassurance. Instead, there is no explanation, no press briefing, no effort to speak to the public.”

The parliamentarian emphasized that Curaçaoans are increasingly concerned about the possible consequences of rising tensions in the region, especially given the island’s proximity to Venezuela and recent U.S. military activity in the Caribbean.

Mc William called on the prime minister to step forward, provide updates and inform residents about any risks or preparations being made. She stressed that transparency and leadership are essential during periods of uncertainty.

The government has not yet responded publicly to her remarks.
