WILLEMSTAD - Despite threats made about 'beating up' a number of teachers if the current director of Protestant School Board (VPCO), Maghalie van der Bunt-George, would not resign, the school still reopened this morning.
The plan is to start the program today with a speech by the Minister of Education, Sithree van Heydoorn. There will also be spokespersons for the police and various agencies that offer victim assistance. Today will be a short school day, because at half past ten the students can go home again.
Last Saturday it was announced that the six police officers involved have been suspended; they are prohibited from entering any police force facility. Minister of Justice, Gilmar Pisas, has also announced that the National Investigation Team (Landsrecherche) will conduct the investigation into the conduct of the officers.
The hope is that the investigation will not take too long, so that there is clarity about what is happening as soon as possible.
