Martina: negative effects for Curaçao due to code orange

Local | By Correspondent December 8, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Economic Development Steven Martina expects that the orange code, which has been promulgated by the Netherlands for Curaçao, will put further pressure on the tourism sector and the catering industry.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this morning that there is an increased risk due to an increase in the number of coronavirus infections in Curaçao. That is why code orange now applies to Curaçao.

According to Martina, this has consequences for the tourism sector and the catering industry. It also means that people traveling to Curaçao must be quarantined when they return to the Netherlands. Martina fears that this will cause people to cancel their trip to Curaçao.

The minister emphasizes that the measures will remain in force. An exception has been made for hotels. Alcohol may also be consumed at home. According to Martina, it is important that we reduce the number of infections per day. That way we can go back to code yellow.

Martina says that Curaçao will remain open for flights from abroad. "People can come in with PCR test." He says that Curaçao is still safe. "There are measures and rules to combat the virus," said the minister.
