“Medicare stopped legal proceedings against hospital”

Local | By Correspondent October 9, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - Medicare Curaçao NV, trading under the name Medical Supplies Curaçao, has stopped the legal proceedings against the hospital.

That is according to the financial director of the St. Elisabeth Hospital (Sehos) Elvis Thode. The Sehos owes a half-million guilders to the local company and they filed summary proceedings to get the hospital to pay off this debt.

The reason for this legal proceeding was mainly because the company was getting into serious financial problems: this is how their debts to suppliers increased and the entire bank credit was used.

Thode states that it has been agreed with Social Insurance Bank (SVB) that they will pay Medicare for the time being so that the company does not get into further trouble. In addition to Medicare, there are many other suppliers who are also pending payments form the hospital.

According to Thode, most have been patient for a long time, but this will come to an end.
