Meeting Between Government and Fishermen Postponed to January 15, 2026

Local | By Press release November 28, 2025

WILLEMSTAD - On behalf of the Government of Curaçao, we would like to express our sincere appreciation for your ongoing commitment to the well-being of our island. We recognize the essential role that you, as fishermen, play in Curaçao’s food security, cultural heritage, and economic vitality.

We are aware of the concerns that have recently arisen and understand the impact they may have on your work and your daily lives. The Minister of GMN, Mr. Pisas, together with the Minister of Economic Development, Dr. Middelhof, have met and concluded that more time is needed to study the situation in greater depth, given its complexity.

Our team is currently evaluating all relevant information to ensure that every decision taken is responsible, well-informed, and reflective of the realities within our fishing community. During this evaluation period, we kindly ask for your patience and understanding. Your cooperation will allow us the time necessary to carefully analyze the situation and continue working toward solutions that are fair, sustainable, and beneficial to all parties involved.

To ensure open communication and collaboration moving forward, the government will hold a meeting with representatives of the fishing community on Wednesday, January 15, 2026.

We thank you for your understanding and for your continued contribution to Curaçao.
