WILLEMSTAD - The salary of Member of Parliament Curtley Obispo will be adjusted downwards at his own request. Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha Obispo has promised this. That happened yesterday during the first discussion of the supplementary budget 2020.
The indignation has been great in recent days after the government had increased the gross salary of ministers and members of Parliament. On balance, they are not improving, but nonetheless the commotion was great. A 2006 decision says ministers and parliamentarians should earn 25 percent more than the highest salary in the civil service.
According to Member of Parliament Giselle Mc William, Gijsbertha's promise means that the salary of all Members of Parliament must be corrected as of 1 September, since the decision of 29 June applied to all Members of Parliament.
