Members' meeting on amendment of ACU statutes suspended

Local | By Correspondent July 11, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The members' meeting of the savings and credit cooperative ACU was suspended on Sunday after a motion. The members have asked to resume the meeting only when the information about the amended statutes is really clear to all.

The meeting at the WTC was scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The main agenda item of the meeting was that the members had to approve the amended articles of association. Despite the length of the meeting, there was no voting round.

According to ACU, the amended statutes are “more firmly anchored in the cooperative principles.” The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten confirms this in a short press release. “With the implementation, the governance model of ACU as a cooperative again meets the legal requirements. These requirements serve to protect members," the central bank said. The opposition party MAN, on the other hand, called on members to vote against the amendment to the statute.

The motion to suspend the meeting was passed by a large majority. The motion proposes to set up a committee of members and to give it time to analyze and submit all information.
