Mexican variant pops up in Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent March 10, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao is tight-lipped, but Dutch media report that the Mexican variant has surfaced in Curaçao. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported the Mexican variant in Limburg and the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported that it has now taken the crossing to Aruba and Curaçao.

On Curaçao, infections are increasing rapidly, which is partly explained by the presence of the British and Mexican variant of the coronavirus.

In a week, the number of active cases has more than doubled. The test ratio rose from 5.1 to 9.6 percent today.

Aruba

In Aruba, the British variant has now been diagnosed in fifty people and the Mexican variant in four. The California and Brazilian varieties have also emerged. Bonaire has eight patients with the British variant.
