WILLEMSTAD - The coalition party MFK supports the plan of Minister Shalten Hato of Justice for the reopening of the Campo Alegre brothel. According to the ruling party, the open-air brothel fulfills a social role and prostitution has now been moved to the city center.
Campo Alegre was closed at the start of the corona crisis after 71 years. The brothel had millions of debts outstanding, and the corona measures delivered the final blow. The Public Prosecution Service is now going to auction the brothel, the proceeds of which will go to the crime fund. The MFK emphasizes that the government will fully cooperate.
The ruling party states that after the closure prostitution has moved to other places on the island and that trafficking in women is also a major problem. "There is no check at the moment, but this is the case at Campo. The women are checked weekly by a doctor and the correct permits are requested for them," according to the party.
