MFK-politician Giovany Obispo denies fraud allegations after arrest

Local, | By Correspondent January 26, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – MFK-politician Giovany Obispo has denied any involvement in fraud following his recent arrest on suspicion of deception. In a written statement, Obispo says that his name is being deliberately discredited with the aim of damaging both his personal reputation and his political party.

Obispo stresses that he is not a fraudster and says he has no motive to harm anyone or to place himself or his party, Movementu Futuro Korsou, in a negative position. According to him, he has been running a small consultancy and administrative office for more than five years, providing services in several fields.

The politician confirmed that on Friday afternoon he voluntarily went to the Montaña police station to provide clarification regarding several complaints that had been filed against him. Those complaints, he says, came from a number of clients who were dissatisfied with the services provided.

Obispo describes it as remarkable that the individuals involved immediately filed formal complaints without first contacting him to seek a solution. He maintains that he would never have allowed a disagreement to escalate into an official complaint and that he has always been willing to engage in dialogue with clients to resolve disputes.

According to Obispo, he was questioned on Friday, January 22, during which he provided extensive explanations supported by documentary evidence. After 24 hours of questioning, he says he was released on Saturday, January 23.

Obispo described the situation as “cruel,” stating that attempts are being made to tarnish his name in order to damage his reputation and everything associated with it. He placed the matter in a political context, saying he is aware that in politics individuals can become targets of actions intended to undermine opponents.

He added that neither he nor his party will allow themselves to be broken by the situation. Obispo called for calm and said he is adhering to the same approach advocated by his party leader, namely to remain composed.

So far, both the Openbaar Ministerie and the police have declined to provide further substantive details about the status of the investigation.
