WILLEMSTAD - The current military assistance to maintain order in Curaçao can be extended. This was confirmed by Defense spokesman Canan Babayigit. The request was approved on Friday in the Netherlands, allowing defense personnel to work on the island.
This is currently being done to protect vital places. Street patrols are done by the Curaçao militia. The assistance applies for a certain period of time, which Babayigit does not want to disclose, but can easily be extended.
Babayigit emphasizes that Defense regularly provides assistance: 90 times in the past year alone.
