Minister Martina disagrees with Amak

Local | By Correspondent October 7, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Minister of Economic Development Steven Martina says he does not agree with the position of AMAK and KIF that there would be no attention to the problems in the Curaçao entertainment world.

The minister is thus responding to complaints from the interest groups for musicians and stakeholders from the entertainment world. At the end of last week, they sent a second letter to Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath, Minister Steven Martina of Economic Development and Quincy Girigorie of Justice with the request to sit down at the table to find a solution for the nightlife in Curaçao.

An ultimatum has been set in the letter. The organizations want the ministers to respond by 7 October at the latest. If the interest groups do not hear from the ministers, they start organizing a manifestation.

Martina says he fully understands the entertainment sector, because that is one of the sectors that he thinks has been hit hardest by the corona measures. “The situation is indeed very difficult and they only say what is not possible and hardly what is. But to say that there is no response from the government for the problem, I disagree," said Martina.

The Minister of Economic Development says he has previously sat with representatives of the sector. “Then it was agreed that we would look for creative solutions. Some concrete proposals have already been made and we still need to seek advice on how feasible they are.”

Finally, Martina says that as far as the Ministry of Economic Development is concerned, they need to get back to the table with stakeholders as soon as possible. According to him, it makes no sense to create negative energy with a manifestation and then come to the desired solutions.
