Local | By Press release January 12, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof met directly on Thursday, January 9, 2026, with vendors whose stalls were affected by the fire that broke out the previous night at Plasa Wilson Papa Godett.

During the midday meeting, the minister expressed solidarity with the affected vendors and explained the process that will be followed to assess the situation. He also outlined the support measures being prepared by the Government of Curaçao in coordination with Fundashon Marshe.

Middelhof informed the stall operators that repair work has already begun, including the replacement of roofs damaged by the fire. In addition, he confirmed that the vendors will receive financial support to help offset the losses and damage suffered as a result of the incident.

The meeting also gave vendors the opportunity to share their experiences and raise the challenges they are currently facing in the aftermath of the fire.

According to the minister, as long as the Marshe Nobo vendors remain temporarily located at Plasa Wilson “Papa” Godett while awaiting the completion of the market’s renovation, their safety remains a top priority for both the Government of Curaçao and Fundashon Marshe.
