WILLEMSTAD – On the morning of January 9, 2026, Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof held a meeting with the Supervisory Board (Raad van Commissarissen) and the Market Master of Fundashon Marshe to assess the situation following the fire that broke out the previous night at Plasa Wilson Papa Godett.
The location currently serves as the temporary site for Marshe Nobo vendors while renovation work on the market continues.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the immediate measures required to ensure the safety of the area, assess the extent of the damage and coordinate access for technical inspections. Attention was also given to the impact on vendors and the need to determine how best to provide support and guidance during this phase.
Minister Middelhof emphasized that the safety of everyone using the area remains the top priority and that all decisions will be based on professional assessments and close coordination with the relevant authorities.
According to the ministry, Middelhof will continue to work directly with Fundashon Marshe to coordinate the next steps as the situation develops.
