WILLEMSTAD - Parliament must decide as soon as possible on the payment of allowances to police officers working in special teams. Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie has submitted this request to Parliament. This concerns members of the Curaçao Police Force who are on an arrest team, placement team or observation team.
The meeting is scheduled for next Thursday, after it was postponed in August. Girigorie wrote to parliament a letter about the issue at the beginning of this month, which has been going on since 2016.
The police regulations should be placed under the 2013 Police Position Decree, the Ministry of Administration, Planning and Services advised in 2016. According to Girigorie, this has also happened. The Planning and Services bureau then ruled that a cabinet decision was not sufficient to justify a national decision.
According to the minister, the national decree can be ratified with an agreement by parliament.
