WILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning (VVRP), Zita Jesus-Leito is making every effort to improve public transport.
The aim is to increase the use of public transport from 10 percent (as it is now) to 20 percent. That is why she organized a "kick-off meeting" on 29 April.
“At the moment, ten percent of the population uses public transport; it concerns between 14,000 and 16,000 people. Mobility is very important for social functioning and the functioning of the economy. Everyone wants to be able to be mobile. However, research has shown that there are problems with traffic and traffic safety,” said the minister.
“The aim is to set up a good public transport system whereby ABC Busbedrijf and the small buses must function better and work together and be accessible in all neighborhoods. In addition, it is important that public transport is not only affordable, but also reliable, comfortable and accessible.”
There is currently cooperation between the government, ABC Busbedrijf, and the transport unions STU and STO, the Curaçao tourist office (CTB) and the Curaçao Hospitality and Tourism Association (Chata).
