Ministry of Education wants to merge schools

WILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Education, Marilyn Alcala Wallé wants small schools to merge to save costs. Ghost teachers must also be traced. Teachers who no longer work but still get paid.

The measures are being prepared in response to a possible budgetary instruction from the Kingdom Council of Ministers in The Hague. As much as 10 million guilders has been reserved to implement the salary covenant with trade union Sitek. What will happen with this agreement is not yet known.

The minister recently announced that she will not touch the teachers’ salaries.
