WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Finance has given positive approval to keep the landfill open free of charge until the end of 2025. Originally, this initiative was set to last until the end of November this year. Finance Minister Javier Silvania (MFK) announced this extension in a Facebook post on Monday afternoon.
The measure aims to relieve residents and businesses from waste disposal costs and to curb illegal dumping.
According to Silvania, maintaining free access to the landfill will allow for better waste management and contribute to a cleaner environment. The extension is also intended to raise awareness about proper waste management.
Earlier this year, confusion arose among both workers and residents regarding the conditions of the disposal initiative, which was initially planned to last only two months.
