WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Justice of Curaçao has formally received the annual report of the Commission Toezicht Arrestantenzorg (CTA), marking an important moment of reflection on the quality of arrestee care on the island.

The report was handed over to Secretary-General Gimena van der Gen by CTA Chair Maritza Becher, accompanied by administrative secretary Saïd Hensen. During the meeting, the parties discussed the commission’s findings and exchanged views on how arrestee care can be further strengthened and developed.
According to the Ministry, the conversation took place in a constructive and open atmosphere, with attention given to opportunities to improve procedures and operational practices. Central to the discussion were the principles of due care, human dignity, and professionalism within the arrestee care system.
The Ministry of Justice expressed its appreciation for the commitment and oversight role of the CTA and emphasized that the annual report is considered a valuable building block for continuous improvement across the justice chain. The findings and recommendations will be used as input for further policy development and institutional strengthening.
