WILLEMSTAD - The Monument Council has issued negative advice for the plans of the Pen Resort. The project developer wants to demolish parts of a monument for the construction of the hotel. It concerns Kas di Pueblo in the Penstraat.

The former party building of the National People's Party is a special heritage with an important history for the residents of Curaçao. By demolishing parts, the monumental values of the building are affected.
The Monument Council advises the Ministry of Urban Planning not to grant a demolition permit. The advisory body also advises the government to reconsider the permits already issued. The way in which the new structure will be built next to the monument is not in line with the starting point that is used worldwide. There should always be a transition area between the historic building and the new building. This is not reflected in the plans of the Pen Resort.
