WILLEMSTAD - Aqualectra has received more than 1000 claims after the series of blackouts at the end of December and the beginning of January. According to director Darick Jones, the claimed damage amounts to more than 70,000 guilders.
More than 60 percent of the claims are still being processed. The electricity supplier promises to come up with a compensation proposal. Aqualectra is not insured against claims resulting from power outages.
Due to the blackouts, the company also lost another 1.7 million guilders in income.
The investigation into the cause of the power outage also cost about one hundred thousand guilders.
