More than 2,000 corona shots during Aruba vaccination marathon

Local | By Correspondent August 24, 2021

ORANJESTAD - During the vaccination marathon in Aruba last Sunday, 2,295 people were vaccinated. The government organized the so-called vacunathon because the vaccination coverage on the island is still not high enough, and the pressure on healthcare continues to increase.

The vacunathon was held in the parking lot of the Ritz Carlton hotel and caused a huge queue. Residents could go all day for their corona vaccination. Because of the crowds, shots were even taken after closing time.

Aruba has again seen a significant increase in the number of corona infections in recent days. With the highest number of admissions since the start of the pandemic, the Horacio Oduber Hospital (HOH) has sounded the alarm. The HOH is struggling with a major shortage of qualified personnel.

No surgical procedures will be performed at the Instituto Medico San Nicolas (IMSAN) for the time being. The staff of the IMSAN will support the staff of the hospital.
