WILLEMSTAD - Trade union UGTK-CADMU and the management of Kompania di Tou Kòrsou (KTK), towage company, are in negotiations to avoid dismissals. The management wants to cut back and therefore lay off more than thirty employees. The unions try to prevent layoffs.
The situation of the towage company is dire, according to director Suldrick Rojer. He confirms that they are meeting with the unions, but time is running out. Due to the departure of PdVSA, many activities for the refinery and Bullen Bay have been canceled. The corona crisis came on top of that. The company is almost drowning. KTK is 90 percent dependent on the refinery.
The UGTK-CADMU trade union has been negotiating with the management of the towage company for several months to prevent the dismissal of 37 employees. Union leader Wendell Meulen says she does not want to make hasty decisions. The possible number of redundancies has since been reduced to 32, but the unions want the management to cut back, including on terms of employment, to prevent the layoffs.
