Most fines are for driving without a driver's license

Local | By Correspondent November 13, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The most common offense in traffic in 2020 was driving without a valid driver's license. Many fines were also handed out for not having valid insurance papers and driving without paying road tax. This is apparent from the annual report of the Public Prosecution Service (OM).

According to the Public Prosecution Service, 1,897 people drove without a driver's license last year. 1,297 persons could not show valid insurance papers and 1,232 had not paid road tax. In addition, 1,164 cars were not inspected and 47 fines were issued to drivers who drove without a seat belt.

More traffic violations were registered in 2020 compared to previous years. On the other hand, a summons report (OPV) was issued less often. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the decrease can be explained by the fact that the police focused on checking the corona measures.
