Motor Vehicle Tax Payments for 2026 Open Next Week

Local | By Correspondent January 7, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Vehicle owners in Curaçao will be able to start paying their motor vehicle tax for 2026 as of next Monday, according to Minister of Finance Charles Cooper, who also holds the portfolio for Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning.

Cooper announced that while payments can begin next week, the new license plates will not be available for collection until mid-February. Vehicle owners will be able to pick up their plates at the office on Gosieweg 60, located in the complex that previously housed the Las Vegas Supermarket.

To receive the new license plates, owners or drivers must present their motor vehicle tax card. Those who pay the tax for the full year will receive both the tax card and the standard validation sticker. Individuals who opt to pay for only half the year will receive the tax card but not the sticker.

Recognized companies have already been able to settle their license plate payments since yesterday, the minister added.

The government advises vehicle owners to complete their payments on time and to take into account that there will be a waiting period between payment and the collection of the new license plates.
