WILLEMSTAD - This afternoon, the Parliament of Curaçai us considering the national ordinance to lower fuel rates. In the proposal presented by the Minister of Finance, the fuel price will be reduced by about 24 cents. This is achieved by lowering the excise tax on gasoline and removing the links in the sales tax.
The compensation 'costs' the state treasury about 27 million guilders until the end of the year. With the support of Parliament, the Minister of Finance could immediately apply the discount in anticipation of a change in the law. This law is intended to relieve the pressure of rapidly rising fuel prices on the world market.
