WILLEMSTAD - The position of Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) has been vacant since 1 September 2019 after the voluntary resignation of the former SG.
A selection committee consisting of the top management within the government was set up for this recruitment and selection. After an extensive and thorough selection, on Wednesday 1 July, the Council of Ministers, on the recommendation of the Minister of SOAW, Mr. Hensley F. Koeiman, agreed to the appointment of Mr. Etienne Van der Horst as Secretary General of SOAW as of September 1, 2020.
Mr. Van der Horst is no stranger to the Curaçao government. He had been a minister of BPD, among other things. Before that, Mr. Van der Horst held various senior management positions. He was head of service at Public Works (DROV), Interim Managing director at Curinta N.V. and he was on the board of Curaçao Airport Partners N.V. Until 1 September, Mr Van der Horst is interim director at the Urban and Spatial Development Directorate of Bonaire.
Given his extensive knowledge and experience, especially regarding the functioning of the government, Mr van der Horst is very suitable to make a solid contribution to the necessary further strengthening of the SOAW.
As of 13 July 2020 and until 1 September, Ms. Yadira Bakhuis will temporarily hold the position of SG a.i. of the Ministry of SOAW.
