WILLEMSTAD - Seventy percent of the population of Curacao is in favor of a referendum on a new political structure for the island. This is evident from an opinion poll conducted on behalf of the local news media Extra and Antilliaans Dagblad.
The survey was conducted by the Curaçao Knowledge Center. 37 percent of those surveyed would vote for a direct link with the Netherlands, 45 percent are in favor of the option of an independent country within the Kingdom.
In total 7 percent of the respondents opt for independence. Ten percent have no opinion or do not know. 873 people were surveyed. The Curaçao Knowledge Center is part of The University of Curaçao.
