National Council of Ministers has not yet decided on the third loan tranche

Local | By Correspondent July 10, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Following the meeting of the Kingdom Council of Ministers that took place on Friday July 10, 2020, Prime Minister Rhuggenaath announced that no decision has yet been made regarding the 3rd loan tranche for Curaçao. This also means that there is no decision or agreement on the stringent conditions attached to this. A final decision will be postponed for the time being.

In this form, the Government of Curaçao has been given time to determine its position and possibly propose adjustments or alternatives to what the Netherlands has proposed. This is important for Curaçao, because to achieve a position that has the support of the people, all advisory bodies and also the Parliament of Curaçao must be consulted. This was simply not realistic in the short time of 4 days available prior to today's meeting of the Kingdom Council of Ministers.

Curaçao will present the results of the work done to meet the requirements of the 2nd tranche before July 15, confirming the willingness and necessity for the Government of Curaçao to come up with reforms as soon as possible in in the context of the crisis that caused COVID-19. There is not yet a fixed period to arrive at the position of Curaçao, but from now on the Government will immediately proceed with the necessary follow-up steps to meet with the Parliament, various groups and organizations for consultation.
