Local | By Correspondent November 28, 2025

WILLEMSTAD - On Thursday, November 27, 2025, Mr. Matthijs van Amelsfort, Director of the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) of the Netherlands, paid an official visit to the Governor of Curaçao, His Excellency Mauritsz de Kort. Mr. Van Amelsfort was accompanied by Mr. Collin Haen, NCSC Coordinator for Administrative Support.

The delegation is in Curaçao to contribute actively to the Kingdom’s “Week of Crisis Management”, a multi-island initiative focused on strengthening preparedness, resilience, and coordinated response capabilities across the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Focus on Cyber Threats and Strengthened Cooperation

During the meeting at Fort Amsterdam, the parties discussed recent developments in collaborative efforts to combat cyber-enabled undermining crime, a growing concern across all parts of the Kingdom. With increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks affecting government systems, essential services, and private-sector networks, closer cooperation between the Netherlands and Curaçao has become a strategic priority.

The NCSC leadership emphasized the importance of knowledge-sharing, rapid threat detection, and coordinated response protocols to ensure the digital security of all Kingdom partners—particularly smaller island jurisdictions facing rising cyber risks.

Strengthening Kingdom-Wide Resilience

Governor De Kort welcomed the visit and expressed appreciation for the NCSC’s commitment to enhancing Curaçao’s cybersecurity posture. The Governor underscored the importance of continuous training, investment, and regional collaboration, especially as cyber threats become more complex and disruptive.

The “Week of Crisis Management” includes workshops, simulations, and strategic meetings designed to improve cooperation between the Netherlands, Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten in areas such as crisis response, digital resilience, public communication, and inter-island coordination.
