WILLEMSTAD - In 2018, the Court of First Instance dealt with nearly 38,000 cases. That seems a lot, but is 14 percent less than 2017, when almost 44,000 cases were brought to court.
The reason is the decrease in the total number of criminal cases. The appeals court dealt with nearly 1,250 cases in 2018, compared to 1,150 a year earlier. The increase there lies mainly with civil law.
