WILLEMSTAD - Outgoing Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie has ordered new electronic surveillance anklets, EZ tapes. Anklets will be available from May and intended for prisoners who are allowed to serve the last part of their sentence at home.
Girigorie confirms that a three-year contract has been concluded with a company. The anklets are now on their way and the minister believes that they can be put into use from May.
The budget of the Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon di Kòrsou, the Curaçao prison, has received 200,000 guilders from the Ministry of Justice for the purchase of the ET anklets.
Girigorie could not yet indicate how many ET anklets are involved and what the costs are.
