New city center parking manager to be announced this week

WILLEMSTAD - Minister Charles Cooper of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Plans informed the media that the winner of the public tender for parking management in the city center of Curaçao will be announced this week.

Downtown Management Organization (DMO) gave a presentation last week to the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) about parking policy in the city. DMO and Sosiedat di Komersiantenan di Otrobanda (SKO), which is the Otrabanda association for business owners, together form one of the bidders for the parking policy. Other parties are Parking Authority Curaçao (PAC) of Enrique Ribeiro and Securitas Antias.

According to Marco Cheis of DMO, the parking area in the city is currently chaotic. “Since PAC stopped the operations, there is no parking space available from eight o'clock in the morning. There are no rules and in short there is no management.”

Cooper has not received any documents from the management committee. "In retrospect, I am grateful that I remained ignorant, so that the process could take place as objectively as possible," said the minister. The committee has indicated that it has chosen a winner and will announce the outcome this week.
