THE HAGUE - A new round of Covid-19 vaccination is set to take place in Curaçao and the other Caribbean islands. This announcement was made by the Dutch Minister of Health, Welfare, and Sport, Ernst Kuipers. The vaccination campaign will commence in October.
According to the Health Council of the Netherlands, vulnerable individuals, including those aged 60 and older and those with high health risks, should receive a Covid-19 vaccine again before the end of the year. Healthcare workers will also be vaccinated.
Kuipers has followed this advice for the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands, including its Caribbean territories. The main reason is that high-risk groups continue to fall ill and require hospitalization.
With this new vaccination round, Kuipers aims to provide them with improved immunity against the disease. The mRNA vaccine, adjusted to target the latest variants of the coronavirus, will be used.
