New government sworn in at the end of May or the beginning of June

Local | By Correspondent April 26, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - According to a reliable source close to the government formation process, the new MFK / PNP government will not be sworn in until late May or early June at the earliest. MFK chairman Sithree 'Cey' van Heydoorn previously claimed in the media that the new government can start its term on or just after May 11, the day of the installation of parliament.

The parties intend to sign the coalition agreement on April 30. The screening of the (future) formateur Chester Peterson will most likely be completed next week, according to a source.

After the coalition agreement has been signed and a completed screening process of the formateur, the governor will officially appoint Peterson and the screening of the candidate ministers can begin.

The screening of the ministers will therefore already be in full swing on Monday 3 May. If this takes 3 to 5 weeks, the new government will take office in the last week of May at the earliest, if it passes the screening, but more likely in the first week of June.
