WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Juvenile Justice Center (JJIC) launched a new project on Thursday aimed at providing practical training for young people in the facility. The initiative, announced by the Ministry of Justice through a press release, is called the "Openbaar Secundair Beroepsonderwijs Deeltijdopleidingen" (OSBOD), or Public Secondary Vocational Part-time Education.
The program targets eight youths who are under the care of the justice system and are clients of the closed section of JJIC. It offers three training paths: assistant in hospitality, painting assistant, and assistant in high-voltage installation.
The selected youths are no longer of compulsory school age, allowing them to fully focus on the training program. The Ministry of Justice aims for the participants to acquire the necessary skills to enter the workforce at the required level by the end of their training.
"Despite having a criminal record, this program provides convicted youth with the opportunity to reintegrate into society, now better prepared and equipped," stated the Ministry of Justice.
