AMSTERDAM - The National Institute of Dutch Slavery History and Legacy (NiNSee) is organizing the Tula Commemoration Concert 2022 on August 21. The concert will be held in the International Theater Amsterdam.
The concert is in memory of Tula who, in August 1795, was the leader of the largest enslaved uprising in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. The resistance hero was declared a national hero in Curaçao in 2010.
The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw will present various musical works together with the Curaçao composer Randal Corsen. In addition, NiNSee has announced singer Dibo Doran as a special guest.
“Visitors are taken from the traditional Tambu of the enslaved on a journey through the musical heritage of the islands,” said the International Theater. “Everything contained in beautiful Big Band arrangements that are based on the distinctive diversity and eventful shared history of the different islands.”
