No Acute Military Threat to Curaçao, Kingdom Says Amid Venezuela Tensions

Local | By Correspondent January 14, 2026

THE HAGUE - The Dutch government says there is currently no acute military threat to Curaçao or other Caribbean parts of the Kingdom, despite escalating tensions between the United States and Venezuela.

In formal answers to parliamentary questions, Minister of Foreign Affairs David van Weel stated that developments in and around Venezuela are being closely monitored, but that military actions are taking place outside the territorial boundaries of the Kingdom. According to the government, there are no indications that Aruba, Curaçao, or Bonaire are at risk of becoming involved in the conflict.

While ruling out immediate danger, the cabinet acknowledged Venezuela’s prolonged political, economic, and humanitarian instability and stressed that its proximity to the ABC islands requires heightened vigilance. The Kingdom continues to emphasize de-escalation and adherence to international law, aligning its position with that of the European Union and regional partners.
