No COVID-19 ward yet in Sehos

WILLEMSTAD - The Sint Elisabeth Hospital (Sehos) does not currently have a COVID-19 ward for the care of patients. This is according to Ingemar Merkies, medical director of the Curaçao Medical Center.

In March and April, epidemiologist Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth and then Minister of Health, Environment and Nature Suzanne Camelia-Römer claimed that the Sehos was being kept as a backup in case the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) during overload.

"After April, the deployment of the Sehos came to a standstill for unclear reasons," Merkies said. In recent months, according to the doctor, there have been talks between Sehos and the ministry and informal talks between CMC and Sehos to explore the possibilities.

For the time being, there is therefore no COVID-19 department active in the Sehos, but Merkies says he has understood that this is possible. "Officially, this has not yet been resolved," Merkies said.
