WILLEMSTAD - The Public Prosecution Service (OM) will not initiate a criminal investigation into the drug interception in which a person on board was killed. The boat with drugs was intercepted by the Coast Guard on July 25.
During the action, a shot was fired by a member of the US Coast Guard, causing one of the crew to die. The Coast Guard seized a total of 1,620 kilograms of narcotics during the interception.
On behalf of the Public Prosecution Service, the National Criminal Investigation Department Curaçao has conducted an investigation into the facts and circumstances of the shooting incident. The fact-finding investigation has now been completed and has not given the Prosecutor General any reason to initiate a criminal investigation.
